Overview

This client is a Western Australian agency responsible for managing a world class facility in the state.  It is closely linked with tourism and focussed on the environment while creating opportunities for private sector investment.

Business Challenge

The organisation receives weekly data from multiple suppliers in multiple formats and the process of collating useful information for decision making and minister-level reporting was highly time consuming and manual.

The organisation also produced PowerPoint reports to highlight the utilities usage for the facility.  These were ad-hoc and time consuming and relied on the knowledge of one or two key individuals to be produced.

How Access Analytic Helped

We worked with their Manager of Business Intelligence to design a Power BI / Excel-based system based on Power Query, Power Pivot and Power BI.  The solution included:

  • Automated consolidation of weekly supplier source files
  • Mapping data into the reporting categories needed by the client
  • Created interactive Power BI reporting for secure access by the management team and Board members.
  • Set up linked analysis file for ad-hoc reporting by authorised users
  • Ability to slice, summarise and drill into the data in many different ways
  • Transfer of knowledge so that staff could operate and amend the solution as their needs evolved.
